Congressman Morgan McGarvey Elected to Key Progressive Leadership Role
WASHINGTON, DC (December 5, 2024) – Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) announced that he has been elected a Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) for the 119th Congress.
“Right now, we need bold, progressive leadership to push back against an increasingly extreme Republican majority and put power back where it belongs—with the people,” said Rep. McGarvey. “As the sole Democrat representing Kentucky in Washington, I carry the voice of working-class communities from metro Louisville to rural Appalachia, and I understand the unique challenges we face. I’m honored to be elected a Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and I’m looking forward to joining my fellow progressive champions in the fight for policies that create a better future for all Americans.”
In the 118th Congress, Rep. McGarvey passed bills to protect veterans from being scammed out of their education benefits and to support entrepreneurs with disabilities. He worked to ban no-knock warrants to ensure no American is wrongfully killed by police in their own home. He also stood up for workers through the Workers POWER Act and fought for America’s youth with the Young Adult Tax Credit and the Child Safety and Well-Being Act. He pushed to protect our environment with the Appalachian Communities Health Equity Act and led efforts to clean up toxic mine lands, while championing the idea of a sovereign wealth fund to ensure future generations have the resources they need.
Rep. McGarvey most recently served as a CPC Special Order Hour Convener and hosted discussions on the House Floor with fellow progressive members about gun violence prevention and LGBTQ+ rights.
