Congressman Morgan McGarvey Celebrates $182 Million in Funding for Expanding Broadband Access in Kentucky

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 27, 2023) –Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Treasury announced $182 million from the American Rescue Plan’s Capital Projects Fund will go toward expanding broadband access in Kentucky:

“I’m extremely pleased that Kentucky will receive crucial funding to connect underserved communities to affordable, high-speed broadband,” said Rep. McGarvey. “This historic investment will help close the digital divide and connect thousands of Kentuckians to the Internet, helping students learn, communities work, and businesses thrive. Thanks to the work of President Biden and Congressional Democrats, including former Congressman John Yarmuth, we can close the digital divide, so every American has access to an affordable, high-speed broadband connection.”

Kentucky will receive $182.8 million for broadband infrastructure, which will connect around 45,000 households and businesses to high-speed Internet access. These funds will go toward the Kentucky Broadband Deployment Fund (BDF), a grant program designed to provide affordable, reliable broadband service to locations in the Commonwealth that currently do not have internet access. Congressional Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan in 2021, allocating $25 billion to expanding access to affordable, high-speed internet.
