SDF receiving $13 million in federal funding for infrastructure upgrades
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) is being awarded $13 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for infrastructure upgrades.
Rep. Morgan McGarvey said $5,500,000 of the federal funding will improve SDF’s power system sustainability and efficiency and then the other $7,500,000 will add four screening lanes to the TSA security checkpoint.
“I fly in and out of our airport almost every week. Not only have I heard from many constituents that we need more security lanes, I’ve seen it myself, with lines often spilling out beyond the security area. That’s why I’m excited the Department of Transportation is providing $13 million to help people move through our airport safely and easily,” McGarvey said. “As bourbonism expands and Louisville becomes a more popular destination, we need to make sure our security lanes can handle the record passengers traveling through our airport. These much-needed investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, passed by President Biden and Congressional Democrats, will increase screening capacity at the TSA checkpoint in our airport. I’m proud to have secured over $500 million in federal funding, including this grant, for Louisville during my first term in Congress, and I’ll continue working to bring even more federal dollars back home.”
Sen. Mitch McConnell said both of the federal grants are being funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airport Terminal Program.
“With SDF celebrating several of its busiest years on record, it’s essential we continue to invest in delivering a safe, efficient experience for the many passengers and cargo traveling through the Commonwealth each day. This federal funding will enhance safety for both passengers and personnel and is critical for the airport’s continued operation. I’m pleased to see today’s investment go to good use at SDF, and I’m proud the bipartisan infrastructure bill I negotiated continues to deliver wins for Kentucky’s communities,” McConnell said.
The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act allows Kentucky to get billions in federal dollars over five years to improve roads, bridges, railroads, riverports, airports and broadband.
