Congressman Morgan McGarvey’s Statement on Voting for Foreign Aid Package
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 20, 2024) – Congressman McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement after voting for a $95 billion foreign aid package:
“I am relieved that today, the House finally voted to send desperately needed support to our Ukrainian allies under siege from Putin's forces. That being said, this is the most difficult vote I’ve ever taken. I understand that no foreign aid package is perfect. Obviously these are not the bills I would have written, and some of the decisions we had to make today were at cross purposes, but ultimately, in this Republican-controlled House, this was our only chance to meet the dire needs of the Palestinian people in Gaza, with more than $9 billion in vital humanitarian aid, bolster the defenses of the Israeli people, and prevent escalation in the region. The Republican majority should have included conditions on the military aid to Netanyahu, which is why the Biden Administration must ensure these weapons are used in accordance with international humanitarian law. I continue to call for a bilateral ceasefire including the release of the hostages so we can see an end to this war. And I hope the Israeli people see their calls for new elections realized so we can see a lasting two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.”
