Congressman Morgan McGarvey’s Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 7, 2024) – Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address:

“Nearly four years ago, people were scared, dying in hospital hallways, hunkered at home, and wondering if we would recover. Today, under President Biden’s leadership, we have the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years, historic job creation, and record investments in American manufacturing and climate change resiliency. We’re fixing potholes, upgrading our roads and bridges, creating good-paying union jobs, lowering costs, and building our economy from the bottom up and middle out.

“We still have work to do: extremists are threatening democracy, legislative attacks against women’s rights are on the rise, and hate speech is stoking the flames of fear and division. It is our duty to protect democratic values at home and around the world — this means helping our allies, standing up to Putin, ensuring humanitarian aid reaches Gazans, and securing a bilateral ceasefire that sees all hostages released.

“Tonight makes it clearer than ever that this year, Americans have a choice between a future of progress and compassion or hatred and conflict. We’ve worked together to move forward — through a global pandemic and a violent attack on our nation’s Capitol building — to deliver real results for the American people. When I came to Congress last year, I promised to work hard, stay true to my values, and fight for our community. And I am excited to see what else we can accomplish for Louisville under President Biden’s leadership.”
