Congressman Morgan McGarvey Slams Republican Majority Decision to Cut Off Federal Funding for Nonprofits

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 25, 2024) — Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement on the Republican Majority’s changes to the Appropriations and Community Project Funding Process:

“I’m devastated that House Republicans have unexpectedly changed the rules for this year’s Community Project Funding requests–effectively rendering all nonprofits ineligible for federal funding through this process,” said Rep. McGarvey. “Nonprofits in Louisville do amazing work for our communities and deserve access to the federal funding needed to sustain and grow their impact. House Republicans' choice to exclude them from the community project funding process is deeply unfair and an unmistakably partisan decision.

“To be clear, this is not a cap on spending—it is merely a restriction on who can receive the funds. This is extreme House Republicans thinking they know what's better for Louisville than Louisvillians do. And I can assure you, they do not.

“I am also incredibly frustrated that House Republicans have given eligible organizations effectively less than a week to submit requests for FY25—a deliberate, exclusionary tactic that will create the kind of chaos and confusion we’ve come to expect from the extremists in the Republican Majority. I look forward to a Democratic Majority that can reverse these decisions and ensure that all of our communities’ funding needs can be appropriately evaluated. In the meantime, I will continue doing everything I can to deliver the federal investments Louisvillians deserve.”

Eligible entities are encouraged to review the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Community Project Funding resource guide, application portal, and deadlines very carefully. The deadline to submit community project funding requests for FY25 to the Office of Rep. McGarvey is Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Rep. McGarvey can submit a maximum of 15 community project funding requests for FY25. More information is available on Rep. McGarvey’s website.

In Fiscal Year 2024, Rep. McGarvey secured over $12 million in Community Project Funding. More information on those recipients can be found here.
