Congressman Morgan McGarvey Cosponsors Legislation to Reinstate Veterans Illegally Fired by Elon Musk, DOGE

Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey, a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, cosponsored the Protect Veteran Jobs Act, legislation to reinstate veterans who have been illegally fired by Elon Musk and DOGE.

The federal government is the largest employer of veterans in the United States – veterans make up approximately 30% of the federal workforce. To date, Elon Musk and DOGE have fired nearly 6,000 veterans across the country and last night, the Trump administration announced they were firing tens of thousands more.

Congressman McGarvey made today’s announcement on the House floor, where he highlighted the story of Tim Nicolazzi, a Louisville Army veteran who was fired from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) last month. Both Congressman McGarvey and Tim Nicolazzi are available for interview.

TRANSCRIPT:

Louisvillian Tim Nicolazzi has dedicated his life to service.

He served in the Air Force and then Army, deploying to Kuwait and Iraq, where he earned a Bronze Star.

After his honorable discharge, Tim’s call to public service brought him to HUD, where he’s helped victims of domestic abuse in Louisville find safety, helped veterans get off the streets, and helped first-time homebuyers achieve their American Dream.

But a few weeks ago, Tim was fired – no notice, no severance, no compassion.

As we speak, the Trump administration is carrying out the biggest layoff of veterans in history – including tens of thousands announced just last night.

That’s why today, I am cosponsoring the Protect Veteran Jobs Act to reinstate veterans who have been illegally fired by Elon Musk and DOGE.

Veterans put on the uniform. They served something higher than themselves. They deserve better.

Tim, thank you for all of your service. I won’t stop fighting for veterans like you.
