Congressman Morgan McGarvey Appointed to Key Leadership Position in House Democratic Caucus

WASHINGTON, DC (December 16, 2024) – Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) announced that he has been named a Chief Deputy Whip—a key position in Democratic Whip Katherine Clark’s (MA-05) Whip team—to champion House Democrats’ agenda in the 119th Congress.

As Chief Deputy Whip, Congressman McGarvey will join a group of 10 members that represent the diversity of experience and perspectives that make up the House Democratic Caucus. In this new role, he will support the Democratic Whip leadership operations and serve on the Steering and Policy Committee, which is responsible for the committee organizing of the House Democratic Caucus.

“I’m honored to be appointed by Whip Clark to serve my Democratic colleagues as a Chief Deputy Whip,” said Rep. McGarvey. “In the continued fight against Republican extremism, it’s undeniable that strong leadership and unity among our Democratic colleagues will be crucial, and I’m looking forward to representing my hometown and working families throughout our country in this new position.”

"I am thrilled to welcome Rep. McGarvey to our Whip team,” said Democratic Whip Katherine Clark. “During his freshman term, he has already proven to be an indispensably skilled, collaborative, and insightful Member of the House Democratic Caucus. As we prepare for the narrowest House Majority in nearly a century, his leadership will be critical to harnessing the strength and unity of House Democrats, amplifying the voices of working people, and defeating Republicans' billionaire-first agenda."

Rep. McGarvey currently serves as a Senior Whip on Rep. Clark’s Whip team for the 118th Congress.
