Congressman Morgan McGarvey Announces Nearly $500,000 in Environmental Justice Funding for Louisville’s Parks Alliance
WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 26, 2023) – Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) announced the Parks Alliance will receive nearly $500,000 in funding through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving Cooperative Agreement Program.
“Thanks to Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, we will have the resources necessary to bolster our climate change resiliency,” said Rep. McGarvey. “These funds will help the Parks Alliance address decades of underinvestment in our community, particularly in West Louisville, by building and fostering healthy neighborhoods. I’m proud to support President Biden’s environmental justice initiatives and will continue working at the federal level to advance health equity and justice across our country.”
“This grant will allow us to launch a new model of resident-driven leadership at the soon to be opened Alberta O. Jones Park in the California neighborhood. The voice of the community has informed every aspect of the design and development of the park,” said Brooke Pardue, President and CEO of the Parks Alliance of Louisville, the nonprofit organization spearheading the project. “We believe residents know best how to make their parks vibrant community assets that are well-loved, maintained, and used by folks in the neighborhood. This award will help us to achieve that goal.”
The Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving Cooperative Agreement Program provides financial assistance to organizations working to address local environmental or public health issues in their communities. The Parks Alliance is the only Kentucky-based nonprofit selected for this funding cycle, and their partners include MSD, UofL Health Equity Hub, the YMCA, Brightside, and Bernheim Forest.
