Congressman Morgan McGarvey’s Statement on Voting Against Partisan Funding Bill H.R. 7217

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 06, 2024) – Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement after voting against a partisan funding bill:

“This Republican bill is another cynical political stunt by Speaker Johnson to appease twice impeached former President Trump and MAGA Republicans,” said Rep. McGarvey. “Rather than take up the bipartisan and comprehensive senate funding bill that includes aid to Israel, much needed humanitarian aid to innocent civilians in Gaza, and support for Ukraine and Taiwan, Speaker Johnson released an incomplete, last minute-bill designed solely to undermine the Senate’s efforts on defense and humanitarian aid. As President Biden made clear in his veto threat, this nakedly political bill will ultimately weaken our national security and make it harder to reach consensus on delivering aid to all of our allies, including Israel. I am extremely frustrated Speaker Johnson continues to play these dangerous political games when our democratic allies are at war. Innocent lives are at stake. His inability to meet the dire global challenges of this moment makes our world less safe, diminishes American leadership, and is a betrayal of our allies. I will continue to stand with Israel alongside President Biden and Leader Jeffries and am eager to get a comprehensive proposal from the Senate that helps Ukraine defend themselves against Putin’s aggression, supports our ally Israel, and provides humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom are women and children.”
