Morgan McGarvey sports Bellarmine jersey in Congressional Baseball Game
WASHINGTON — There was some Kentucky representation in this year's Congressional Baseball Game.
Each year, Republicans and Democrats take their rivalry to the mound in Washington, D.C., for charity.
And this year, Democratic Congressman Morgan McGarvey, who represents most of Louisville, was the only Kentucky politician to step up to the plate.
He saw some action, too, getting a base hit in the fifth inning. But that couldn't save the Dems, who ultimately lost to Republicans 16-6.
Republicans have won the last three years.
Often, the politicians will wear uniforms of teams in areas they represent. McGarvey wore a jersey from Bellarmine in Louisville.
There was an Indiana representative on the field, too: Frank Mrvan. He represents the state's 1st Congressional District.
More about the game
The beloved annual bipartisan Congressional Baseball Game has been happening since 1909. They now play the game at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
The game benefits several charities, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, the Washington Literacy Center and the Washington Nationals Philanthropies, along with the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund in gratitude to the officers at the Republican practice shooting on June 14, 2017.
