McGarvey discusses Roe v. Wade on anniversary of SCOTUS decision
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Monday marks the 51st anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe V. Wade decision legalizing abortion in the U.S.
One Kentucky lawmaker is stressing the restoration of reproductive rights in the commonwealth.
Monday morning, Congressman Morgan McGarvey held a press conference alongside advocates and local elected officials, discussing restoring federal reproductive rights.
Back in June of 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe, ruling there was no constitutional right to abortion.
Congressman McGarvey talked about voters rejecting proposals to ban abortion in states across the country.
“We know this is not what people want,” McGarvey said. “We watched as Kentuckians rejected a constitutional amendment that would have made it nearly impossible to ever receive an abortion. We’ve seen this play out across the country, in states like Kansas, Ohio, Montana, Kentucky, where these really cruel and extreme measures are being rejected by voters.”
Roe v Wade also legalized other privacy matters surrounding family, relationships, and bodily autonomy.
The same day, President Biden’s reelection campaign made reproductive rights a focal point of the campaign.
