Black veterans honored at annual breakfast
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Thursday morning, local Black veterans were honored for their service.
The annual veterans breakfast was held at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage. It’s an opportunity to provide an open community discussion surrounding the service of Louisville’s Black veterans.
The event was put on by Congressman Morgan McGarvey who says for far too long, Black veterans have been overlooked for their service.
“Black veterans have served in every single conflict in American history going back to the Revolutionary War, but far too often, their contributions have been forgotten or their sacrifices have not been recognized by laws at home,” he said. “This is just a special breakfast to thank them for their service.”
Former Congressman John Yarmuth started the annual breakfast and Representative McGarvey plans to continue hosting the event every year.
