Congressman Morgan McGarvey Denounces House Republicans Playing Political Games to Undermine our National Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 14, 2023) – Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) released the following statement after voting against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which continues House Republicans’ attacks on freedom and undermines our national security:

“The NDAA is a historically bipartisan piece of legislation to preserve national security, provide critical resources to our military, and ensure our servicemembers are taken care of,” said Rep. McGarvey. “For 63 years, Congress has used the bipartisan NDAA to advance our defense needs and protect our service members. Today, House Republicans chose to pass a shameful bill through a partisan process. This bill undermines our national security, weakens our military readiness and effectiveness, and takes away rights from millions of servicemembers. Instead of authorizing crucial funding to modernize and strengthen our military, House Republicans moved forward with an extremist bill that erodes our decades-long effort to build a fighting force that reflects the strength and diversity of our nation. I’m dedicated to making sure all who want to serve our country have the opportunity to do so — regardless of their race, gender, or sexuality — and am committed to fighting in Congress for our servicemembers, so I voted against the bill.”
